    June Challenge Results

This month's Regular Challenge was "Map a Real Place in a Fantasy or SciFi Style". Diamond said...

"Your mission this time around is to pick out any real world place (New York City, Botswana, your commute route, the Indian Ocean, whatever) and turn it into a fantasy (or scifi) map.

It doesn't have to be direct translation either; you could do a post-apocalypse version of your hometown, for example. The only stipulation is that the map has to be recognizable as showing a version of an actual place. If you're showing something a little more obscure than, say, the city of London, you might want to link to a map of the place you're re-creating, if only so we can judge you more harshly."

Guild members hail from all over the globe and this month's entries reflected our internationality, with maps depicting areas of North America, Europe and the Middle East. Two maps emerged early on as the clear favourites and voting was close until the near the end.

Our congratulations go to Ilanthar for his map 'Fairy Lutece', a fantasy version of central Paris. Remarkably, despite his long history of producing top quality maps - not to mention a Cartographers' Choice award - this is Ilanthar's first gold compass. You can see Ilanthar's work-in-progress thread here.

Honourable mention to runner-up Snodsy for his gorgeous map of Havasupai Falls in the Grand Canyon, USA.

    July Challenge

July's regular challenge is up and running, and it's a fun one. Seems Diamond's getting a bit lazy, as he decided to use a random generator instead of coming up with a theme, but his idea has sparked the interest of a whole bunch of Guilders. If you like the idea of clicking a link and receiving ten random locations to choose from, this is the month for you. You'll have to pick one of them though, and no cheating!

You can read more about it in the intro post here. Or check out the current entries in the challenge folder here.
