August/September 2016 Lite Challenge Results
This month's Lite Challenge was 'Map an Arena'. Bogie says...
In honor of the Olympics, this time the challenge is for you to map an ARENA. Any kind of ARENA, any sport, any venue, any scale. You could do the Track & Field event arena from the 2016 Olympics, or the track from ancient Greece, You could do the Colosseum or some other Gladiator Arena, or you could do Foxboro stadium and the SuperBowl. You could make the stadium for Wimbledon Tennis Championship or the Beach Volleyball Arena from CopaCabana in Rio. Why not do the Blood Bowl? Maybe a NASCAR track or Ben-Hur's Chariot race? Like Sci-Fi better? Do the Pod Race on Tatoine! Lots & lots of opportunities.
Guild members must be a blood-thirsty lot as, despite Bogie's many varied suggestions, every single entrant opted to map a fighting pit. We had a couple of entirely fictional fighting pits (Ladiestorm and CluelessCartog). One entry was inspired by PS game Shadow of the Colossus (GLS), and another couple were based on real life amphitheatres (Justinian and Wolram).
Voting was a bit of a nail-biter, and in the end we had a tie! It's been a long time since this happened, so it's a pleasure to congratulate our two winners, djan and fol2dol, both of whom win a shiny Silver Compass.
Djan's isometric lineart map 'The Pits' was created in Inkscape and Gimp, and depicts two fighting pits situated under The Burning Toad bar and Jack's Delicacies, a demon-run restaurant. You can see djan's WIP thread here.
Fol2dol mapped The Thunderdome from the Mad Max movies, hand-drawn on paper then coloured in Photoshop. Fol2dol's WIP is here.

September/October 2016 Lite Challenge
Our new Lite Challenge is up and running and this time the theme is 'Map a Legendary Location'. Bogie says...
For this months challenge I want you to map a Location from the Great Legends. Maybe do the cave were Hercules fights the great lion, Mount Olympus where Zeus lives, Baba Yaga's Hut, King Arthur's Camelot, The Fountain of Youth, Xanadu, Dracula's Castle, Frankenstein's Laboratory, Lost city of Atlantis...
Entries are already coming in and, amazingly, they aren't all about fighting! Let's see some legendary mapping over the next few weeks. More information on the challenge here, and you can view the current entries here.
