Welcome to the weekly round-up of what's been happening at the Guild over the last seven days.

    Atlas Awards

Nominations are open for the Atlas Awards. If you're new to the site, the Atlas Awards are our 'Map Oscars', where we recognise the best of the best, posted during 2017. We have eight categories, listed below, and we want you to nominate one map for each:

    • Best World Map
    • Best Regional Map
    • Best City, Town, or Village Map
    • Best Structure, Dungeon, or Gaming Map
    • Best Space, SciFi, or Modern Map
    • Best Hand-Drawn or Traditional Map
    • Most Creative Map
    • Best Overall Map

There's more information and some rules on how to nominate here. Check out the nomination threads here. You've got till the beginning of March to get your nominations in.

    Challenge News

Lite Challenge - Map something from your home town
The Lite Challenge will close tonight (15th Jan), so get your final entries submitted before the deadline! See the current entries here.

Regular Challenge - Fill in the blanks
This is shaping up to be one of our most popular challenges (and thanks again to Chashio for the idea). At the time of writing, we've got eighteen entries and, with over two weeks to go, there's still time to enter. Info on the challenge is here, and view the current entries here.

A note about the 'Latest WIP' button
Please always remember to insert the 'Latest WIP' tag in your comment when you post an updated challenge map. The thumbnail scraper uses this tag to display your map in the gallery, but our Community Leaders use it too when it's time to create the voting poll. If you don't include it, people won't see your latest work, and you risk being missed from the poll completely if you never include it. It's on the toolbar in the comment box:

    ++++

    Five Finished Maps

And some bonus Finished Maps, just because!

    Five threads to check out

The latest work-in-progress threads, interesting discussions, new tutorials etc etc. It's all here.

      Thanks, guys.

I was amused by that frying pan link. I need to check my own pots & pans for hidden maps!

Be sure you check your links before posting them, there was one leading to Mapporn.

It's interesting what they're learning about Greenland recently. There's a documentary on Netflix about sailing through the Northern passage that covers some of the changes their seeing there... I think it's the Polar Sea.
It's funny how much you can learn about what people didn't know nowadays... California an island? It might be someday.
