• Weekly Round-up - 22nd January, 2018

Welcome to the weekly round-up, a summary of what's going on at the Guild over the past seven days.

    Cartographer’s Choice

Congrats to Azelor on his Cartographers’ Choice award for map ‘The Kingdom in the Clouds’. Check out the full size version to appreciate the detail and hard work that went into this map. Great to see a Guild World map be recognised too.

    Atlas Awards

Have you nominated your favourite maps of 2017 for an Atlas Award yet? Check out the current nominations here. Remember, you can’t nominate a map that’s already been nominated for a particular category, though you can nominate it for a different category if you so choose. Rules and info on how to nominate here. If you need a reminder of 2017’s Finished Maps, we’ve got a gallery of thumbnails. Note, this page is best viewed on a laptop/desktop PC, rather than a mobile device. It’s a very image-heavy, and may take a little while to fully load, depending on your connection.

    Challenge News

    Dec 2017 / Jan 2018 Lite Challenge

Congrats to qwalker on winning the Dec/Jan Lite Challenge with map Interstate Hotel at Flinders Island. This was the first lite challenge qwalker had entered, so double congrats on the win, and a first silver compass. Check out the winning map here.

Jan / Feb 2018 Lite Challenge

The new Lite Challenge for Jan/Feb 2018 is already up and running, and our thanks go to XCali for the idea...

Jan/Feb '18 Lite Challenge: Map a mysterious entrance! This months Challenge comes from the mind of XCali "Create a map around a mysterious entrance." Like a village having this ancient door in nearby woods. Or a city built to protect a door that hides a great secret. Or underwater ruins that obscure a lost tomb. Or a hidden pirates cove, the entrance to the inside of a hollow asteroid, The back way into Alcatraz like Sean Connery used on "The Rock" Ect. So many cool possibilities.

Challenge runs until 14th Feb, so lots of time to enter. More info in the thread here.

    January 2018 Regular Challenge

Our regular challenge, running till the 31st, is ‘Fill in the blanks.’ If you’d like to create a map from a page of labels, there’s still time to enter. Challenge info here.

I was particularly drawn to the tea article.....how fascinating that all over the globe the term is strikingly similar.
