• Weekly Round-up - 29th January, 2018

Welcome to the weekly round-up, a summary of what's going on at the Guild over the past seven days.

    Challenge News

    Regular Challenge

This month’s regular challenge ‘Fill in the blanks’ ends on 31st January, so get those entries finished up! We’ve had an amazing response this month, and voting will be tough. Check out the current entries here, and watch out for the poll around 1st Feb.

    Lite Challenge

Our Lite Challenge is ‘Map a mysterious entrance’ with several excellent entries so far. The challenge runs till mid-February, so there’s still plenty of time to enter. Catch up on the entries here.

    Mapping Challenge Suggestions

We’ve had a couple of suggestions for future challenges, so go vote ‘em up if you like the idea.

Create a map from a given coastline, suggested by Tonquani, who says "Fairly simple this one, but in the vein of the current challenge [Jan 2018], but instead of creating a map from labels, in this one you are provided with a coast outline (which may include lakes/islands etc at the discretion of the challenge setter), and you flesh it out."

After the sad passing of author Ursula K. Le Guin, Greason Wolfe suggested a ‘Tribute Map’ challenge, where you "Recreate a map from a book or series by one of your favorite authors who has passed away. It could be any theme so long as it is recognizable as a tribute when compared to the original version of whichever map the individual participant chooses."

    Five Finished Maps

    Five threads to check out

The latest work-in-progress threads, interesting discussions, new tutorials etc etc. It's all here.

    The Atlas Awards

Nominations are open for the Atlas Awards, so if you haven't picked your favs from last year, it's time to start nominating!

A couple of points to remember...

    • You can't nominate a map in a particular category if someone else has nominated it first. You can nominate for a different category, if you choose, assuming it's not been nominated already.
    • Please try to ensure your nomination matches the category. For example, Best World Map shouldn't be a regional map.
    • Please link to the thread and not directly to the image. If you're using this page to find your nominations, click on the wording under the thumbnail image to open the thread, rather than the thumbnail itself, and copy/paste the link to the thread.

Lots of fantastic nominations already, and we're looking forward to seeing more!

    Bookmarks

If you want a fun little mapping project that doesn't take up too much time, how about making a bookmark? It's relatively quick and you can print out and share with friends too.

Check out our Bookmarks folder to see what other members have made, and start a thread if you'd like take part.
