... nearly finished.
Hello there,
this is my first attempt.
I try to mix a modern 3d-ish style with a rotten, grungy, handrawn one.
Not ready yet, comments are very welcome.
Maybe you guys have some tips about the labeling?
Software used: Gimp 2.6, Fractal Terrains Pro.
Thanks to RobA and walronate for their great tutorials, thanks to bill roach for his terraformer package.

looks pretty cool to me, but the drop shadow makes it looks like its floating in the air.
I agree with Aang about the shadows. As for the labeling, I would label the places directly over where they're located instead of drawing a line to them. If its difficult to make out the labels that way you could use a subtle outerglow around the labels. This would also free up some space to write different things about the world or depict what some places look like.
I really dig the style of this map
I like the shadow...get rid of it and the whole thing will look flat and boring. The only thing I would change is to add more landmasses...then the shadow might be overkill at that point but I don't know for sure. With more land you could fill up that whole outer tan area with labels and put lines to things and thus fill up a lot of dead space. Anyway, nice job.
If the radiance of a thousand suns was to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the Mighty One...I am become Death, the Shatterer of worlds.
