Hello! Sorry, newbie here.
Does anyone know why I am being redirected to the general forum when I click on a link, despite seeing another URL on my browser when I hover over it?
Thanks!
I presume these are internal Guild links (and not external links)? We used to have a plugin that created SEO-friendly URLs, so the links often incorporated the thread's title. If I'm remembering correctly, there was some problem with it and the plugin was discontinued, so it had to be removed. This left many orphan links. Redrobes did a lot of work a few years back to fix them, but I think there are still a few scattered here and there.
You can work out the correct link from the original. The standard guild link to the first page of a thread is:
https:/ /www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=24758
See that number at the end? That's the important bit. (Note, I've added an extra space between the // so that the forum software doesn't convert the text to a link).
Hover over the problem link, and right click on it. You should get an option to 'Copy link location' or 'Copy link address' or something along those lines. Paste the link into Notepad or something similar and take a look at it. It should have a format similar to the link above, followed by some text, so you might have something like this...
https:/ /www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?24758-thread-title-here
(I can't recall the exact breakdown - there may be other characters between the number and the text - but it's broadly similar to this. Again, there's an extra space between // to stop this being converted to a link.)
In Notepad, delete the text off the end, but keep the number, so that you have a link similar in format to the standard link example I posted. Now copy this amended link and paste it into your browser URL bar. Hopefully that should work.
You can perhaps let us know of any obsolete links you find and we'll try to get them updated. Please start a thread in Technical Support for that.
