Nov/Dec 2020 Lite Challenge: The War of the Roses Compass Rose

For the light challenge this month I thought I would make a War of the Roses themed Compass rose, for all of those English civil war themed maps that you might want to make. My current work in progress is the pencil outline of the compass rose. The outline needs a bit more work but I should soon be ready to move on to inking in the lines. Once I get to the final image I'll do a .png with a transparent background.

Around the outside are icons representing the 3 branches of the English royal family that were embroiled in the war and in the middle are rose vines with roses to represent the sites of the major events of the war. If you superimposed a map of the British Isles on the centre the positioning of the roses is roughly correct geographically.

Here is the latest work in progress, I've now finished the inking in (unless I decide to go back and add more detail later). Now I'll move on and add colour.

Here is the latest progress, the bulk of the colouring is now done and hopefully I should be able to finish the rest over the next day or two. I'm still debating how to colour the trellis that the rose vines are growing up. Initially, I was planning to make it look like an ironwork trellis but now I'm not so sure. I guess we'll see what I end up deciding on.
