Default The Legacy of Kings -Known World Map

Created a map for my players. Intended to be a Heroic Age campaign. This is an alternate ancient Greece setting following an event known as the Godwar. The campaign will be titled the Legacy of Kings.

I used Paint.Net to create the map and some mountain assets by Mazlo (Totally worth becoming a patron).

This is the set up for the world.

"Once, the world was not as we know it. These lands were part of a wider universe and peopled by different nations. The Gods, of course, were still the Gods, but they were not alone, but part of a myriad of groups, each worshipped by their followers. But all this changed in the aftermath of the Godwar.

When a group of powerful heroes sought to ascend to the heavens it is said that Zeus and the Olympians welcomed them with open arms, for these were children of the Gods and had earned their way to ascendancy. Peace was not to be however.

The new Gods conspired amongst one another and murdered Apollo, and with his death a great and lasting darkness spread throughout the world as the light of the sun went out. The blood of Gods ran in the streets of Olympus and the Earth shook under the weight of this terrible act.

As the war within the realms of the Gods raged, so too, did the call to war echo throughout the lands of Men. Brother slew brother, fathers their sons and mothers turned on their children and for nine years, the lands of Men and Gods shuddered as Creation itself was threatened.

As it turned out, it is believed that the war itself, in fact, perhaps the ascendancy in the first place, was but a ruse. For one of the new Gods, Ismene, called the Brightshadow by her followers sought to awaken and release the primordial Gods, who had spawned from Chaos herself and were the creators of the Titans whom the Olympians had usurped.

Ultimately, it was the Greek heroes, Perseus and Heracles who defeated Ismene, but at great cost. Ismene is said to have transformed herself into a great winged beast and while she was brought low by Heracles, he died from the venomous wounds he suffered, but not before he had grasped the burning seal of Chaos and locked the old Gods away in their tomb. Of Perseus, little is known save for the legend that it was Megapenthas of Argos who stabbed his cousin from behind, having been corrupted by the whispers and seductions of Ismene.

With her defeat, the other ascendants surrendered to the Olympians and as their punishment, Zeus demanded the sacrifice of two of their number. Aggelos the Dawn Star was chosen to sacrifice in the name of Apollo, and his spirit took the place of the sun. Kalomira the Black Crow, was chosen to honour the death of Selene, Goddess of the Moon. The two had been lovers, and thus, it was only fitting that they be cursed to forever wander the heavens, chasing one another but forever apart for all eternity.

Of the ascendants, only the twins, Sakrios and Agni were spared. For they had refused to join their fellows in the attempted usurpation of Olympus. They were welcomed to the ranks of the Olympians and charged with guarding the gates of Olympus from all enemies.

With the ascendants defeated, the Gods leveled a further punishment upon them fro their hubris. Zeus looked down upon the ruin of the known world and ripped it from the mortal plane, casting it adrift in the mists of Chaos herself, walling the realm off with impassible mountains and a sea with no end and filling it with great and terrible beasts.

The ascendants were cast down to this land, forever denied the heavens and Hades locked the gates of the Underworld to them. They would be cursed for all eternity. To be more than mere mortals and less than Gods. And thus, it has remained for a thousand years or more…."Known World -Final.jpg
