Default June 2021 Challenge - The Seasonal Realms

So, this is an idea I've wanted to do for ages. It's pretty simple: to create a realm where you'd have four realms representing the four seasons. For one, it would be a fun challenge visually, and I think as a setting it could be interesting.

As I was discussing this with Ifrix, he came up with the great idea that I could tie it in with the current challenge by adding portals, and it immediately made all the sense to me. In order for these realms to exist so close within one another but with these season climates existing on them, it would stand to reason that there would be something other than just ocean separating them. How would one travel between the realms? Magical portals, of course.

Just a rough sketch for now, with some circles showing the rough placements for the the portals and diamonds for cities.

    I appreciate the enthusiasm, guys!

I've ended up working in a slightly unusual way for me, creating a large chunk of the lineart before adding colour and texture. Let's hope it doesn't end up blowing up in my face...

It's interesting to me that you do the color/texture first normally. It seems more intuitive to do the linework first.

I don't really do it first either. It's usually first lineart for the coastline (if there is one, of course), then after that I'll add the first tries at colour and texture. I always end up refining and editing them a lot as I go along from there, but I like having that base there when working on the rest of the lineart and especially shading.

Initial linework done. Trees to be added later, it's so much easier to add them once the textures and colours are in place.

It's super interesting to read you usually work as soon as possible on color, and will add trees after the texture. My process is completely different, even if I never work on white background in order to preserve my eyes. I can't wait to see the next steps, Kell !

Great land shapes! And very cool concept.
