Map July Challenge: Lair of the Red Dragon

A more classical approach to the theme.

I took inspiration from Jared Blando's excellent medieval style city maps.

The map looks really good and the fire is a nice touch. My only critique would be that the dragon almost looks like it is smiling, which while terrifying in its own way (why would the dragon be smiling???) does not seem to fit with the surrounding fire.

    Thanks!
I see your point. I was drawing the dragon close to medieval images, they were not really into realism concerning facial expression. Just look at the Morgan bible - smiling every time, at weddings, battles and executions.
Japanese drawings were more realistic in this aspect. But on the other hand - genitals were always drawn too big by them. ;-)

This is looking really nice. I like the combination of top down and isometric elements, it's very reminiscent of actual medieval art.

Thank you! I was a bit unsure about the mix of perspectives initially, but I like the result.

Great work Sap, very close to the source of inspiration!
Would have loved to see some progress steps for this map (share some secrets why don’t ya!)
