It seems I am getting in the habit of kicking these contests off. Here's the first WIP for my entry:

Nice, pleasing color palette so far. Looking forward to seeing where you go with it.

Thanks for starting this off with a bang! Looking good, I like the parchment background a lot. Excellent river system leading into the lake.

Here's my next iteration. I added mountains and a preliminary frame (I will probably add to this or replace all together).

Looks great. Topography charts are always so intricate and fascinating. I like the way you transitioned the river into the lake, it looks very real.

Your map looks pretty cool so far. I hope you finish this in time.

    Thank you both!

It has a been a busy few weeks, since I was moving, but I managed to get some more done. I had hoped to do more with this, and to hand draw everything, but given that I ran out of time I snagged some great tree and location brushes from KM Alexander to finish this off before the deadline.

    aaH hA! another delta :-)
love the folded paper background and the overall aged feel.

do you think you will finish it by hand at some point as you wanted to? or call it a map and move onto the next one?

Thanks! We'll see if I get a chance. I may just call this one done, and do a more ambitious fully hand drawn map in this style at some point.

I agree with Misjay. You've captured a great rustic feel.
