Cool idea. I'd like to but... we'll see. Maybe just something little...
You guys don't necessarily have to draw buildings for a cut away map, there's a lot of possibilities in this challenge. Cut away maps ARE maps, maybe just a kind you're not used to make. Anyway, that's probably why it's called a challenge

If I am creating a futuristic city that has platforms for buildings on both vertical and horizontal axes, would a 3/4 view be considered a sort of cut-away of it? Or even a vertical view with a perspective point that shows the different layers of vertical platforms of that city?
Thank you for your attention,
Diego
Hi Diego,
The purpose of a cut-away map is to show something inside that would be hidden if you were just looking at the feature from the outside. As for a city, take a look at this map by Mike Schley It gives a very good (and beatifully crafted) sense of what could be a cut away of urban scene.
Hi Max!
I get the idea, and my city won't fit into the criteria. And I also read on the rules that the map must be created when the competition opens. My city was originally created on the 31st March, so I think it also wouldn't qualify for this month.
Thank you very much!
When I read "Be sure that the map is a real cut-away, not just a simple side-view though." I immediately thought of this image as an example of what should be avoided.
Now, I suspect this image would actually be acceptable so I have no idea what that quoted sentence meant. What would be an example of what not to do?
Would this second image be an example of what to avoid?

I think the second image is allowed as it shows the internal deck layout. But if it was just a side view of the outer hull then it wouldn't count.
My new Deviant-thing. I finally caved.
Thank you!
OMG, I just realized that I was misreading the whole time "a simple side-view though" as "a simple side-view through" *blush!*
