Desert brush sets

I'm working on a black and white map and I'm at a loss for what sort of symbol or brush set I should use for the desert. The easiest think would be to draw dunes, but I'm going for a Sonoran Desert look, brush and cactus. The next option is little cacti. Are there any other little symbols, wavy lines, dots and such that you prefer?

Second, how about grasslands? I'm leading towards no demarkation, but if I can't find a great demarkation for desert, maybe I'll go for that. What do you guys think?

You could do a great tone for grass lands and fade to white for desert

A desert is mostly empty so maybe it would look ok if it was just white space with some small rocks here and there, maybe a bleached cow skull and a palm tree if there is a river flowing through.
