I have just put in a sea and rendered it as a globe on the place index / composite map if you want to see what it looks like on a sphere.

Hey I've just noticed a problem - the map only shows 60 degrees of latitude, not 90! I guess that makes it easier for northern/southern people worried about distortion, but means we have 30 degrees of seas north and south.

So I make this the size of the full world map:

Your right - I didnt spot that either. I have updated the image. It definitely looks better. Normally you would have a 2:1 ratio of image for a world in Mercator projection where each pixel is the same degree angle in horz and vert but now the vertical resolution is more than the horizontal. Not that it really matters...

Robulous - those are 15 degree lines - so it is actually 90 degrees.
I dropped the map into g.projector and that's where the grid came from - set to 15 degree graticules.

Edit - but if you all want to add more sea to equalize things, we can do that.

Like I said, we can add some more water to equalize things if people would prefer that.
Not a lot of planning went into this whole layout when we started.
It was just quick and messy and filling in where there was space.

New map scale on page 1 of this thread......>>>>

Edit - here's a comparison of new scale to old scale.
Not much different, so things should be fine.

It's fine I thinking changing things at this stage would be too complicated! My country stretches basically the latitude of all of Europe so it's fine really.

Any chance we can get the scale added to the world map?
