So, here's an update for what it's worth. Mostly terrain features (figured I should focus on the map). Still very much a giant mess.
It's not quite the direction I wanted to go with but I ran into a few issues and started floundering, reworking, reworking again and, well, this is the turn it's taken. I know it doesn't really portray the scale well, and there are probably many features that don't make sense/look weird. Also not sure what to do with the northern region above the river.

I'd welcome opinions/suggestions... on anything. Please.

Well from an outside perspective this looks fantastic! I like the dark macabre imagery. Quire unsettling. Also, the mountains and contour work are technically excellent. Keep it up!

    Cheers,

Still looking fantastic, Chashio. As for that northern area, what about a massive haunted forest?

    Thanks arsheesh. And Diamond.

I had a big dark forest in mind for somewhere... I suppose the north could work for that. Anyone else have ideas?

I'm trying to do a quick sketch of an idea.... brb

Edit - well, not quite as creative of ideas as I had thought.
Oh well, there are a few thoughts, for what they're worth.

Well, you could always just do it as one massive graveyard. Thousands of headstones and mausoleums everywhere with gothic looking ironwork fences going every which way. You could call it the headstone forest.

Or lots of barrows. Or maybe some pyramids. possibly some stepped ones.

Thank you They're worth quite a lot. It also really helps seeing something up at the top of the map... having it all empty throws off my perspective.

    Thanks Tonnichiwa.
The forest I had in mind is partially dead/dying/turned to stone from an ancient fey plague... so it is kind of graveyard-ish. Called 'The Hollow' - I'll share more on that when I get stuff done.

I really love the mountains you're drawing here, I want to zoom in muuuch closer I imagined a great dry-ish steppe north of the river, seeing as there's no irrigation there, though I suppose that huge river is big enough to feed a sizable forest. And it does help with the perspective, having some stuff there. Would love to see you draw a dead forest.

Thanks! I'll post a bit larger version when I'm finished. I doubled the original file size but right now I'm only working at 50% while I lay stuff in, and posting a little smaller than that - zooming in now is fuzzy.

I was kinda leaning that way too, especially with Waldronate's dry lands to the north, but, well...

I was planning of adding a bit of it in the illustrations around the edge - not sure yet how I'm going to render forests on the map.
