Well, actually, most of your borders with mine are with a people that proclaim themselves a separate country. So if you made allies with them the Empire to the west would be in trouble.

Mmm, difficult situation... Perhaps the empire and the 16 duchies could team up. With my help the empire in the west could subjugate the smaller independent nations and we can safely trade as allies.

Another update. A lot of mountains to do so that's going to take some time...

Good to hear that. However, let me inform you: I will be occupied fighting a war in the east. I would, of course, support you in your fight against the rebels, but the main body of my army will be a couple thousand miles away. I will lend you any troops I can spare, but they won't be many. Please be careful with them!
