Thanks for all the comments, everyone. I'm woefully behind. In a fit of madness, I decided to upgrade my OS to the newest Ubuntu release and now Gimp keeps crashing on me. I've submitted a bug report and am hopeful for a fix soon, but I'm almost scared to work on the map in case I lose what I've done. Gimp's always been rock solid for me and I'm really bad for saving as I go along, because it never crashes.

Never a dull moment....

A woeful tale indeed. If you can't get that fixed soon there's always a pen and paper (unless you're in a woeful short supply of those... )

Haha, yup, woeful pretty much sums up how I'm feeling.

I think I would reformat my PC and roll back to the older OS version before I commit to pen & paper. I like doodling but I need my Undo button.

I installed Ubuntu as a second OS, the main one is Windows 7. Maybe you could install an old version of Ubuntu on a new disk partition. Not the simplest solution but it's easier than reformatting.

Yeah, I might just do that if there's no fix in the next few days. I actually have a spare partition, that I use for playing with other distros from time to time & general messing about. It's empty right now, so I could probably have 15.10 up & running pretty quickly. Thanks for the suggestion!

Ouch, that's hard. I hope you'll figure a way to solve this. And no worries, the elves are keeping their mysteries, it's well known .

I've almost done the same except that I'm using Mint and that I installed it on an external disk (probably even easier to do).
