I agree with Abu, the shadows appear way more nicely on the darker background. Playing with vibrance and saturation might get you where you want or maybe overlaying a lighter background and tuning the opacity ... Anyways, your map makes me travel, this riverbed is magical !

Just a little more. And I kept the darker version with a bit more of light.

And I realized that I've absolutely no idea how I'll deal with additionnal elements ... Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to have a picture as reference... Good practice anyway, I suppose .

    Thanks Thomrey!

Some more mountain shading. Almost done with this, unless I'm doing it wrong.

Any suggestion about what I could possibly add? I mean, someone already did beautiful temples and a half-burried statue on its own map ... so what else?

It's a long dry riverbed, these parts often come with canyons and plateaus. Or you can play with fantasy with a petrified forest, something very mineral. If you want to keep the otherworldly atmosphere of your reference picture why not paint a frozen planet. That river doesn't have to be water after all. Think Tchoury and Rosetta, think Pluto and you'll come up with something wonderful (martian canyons could be great too). Just my two cents, I've gotta go back to my own project.

Fantastic point of view Ilanthar. With this hawk eye, i can easily imagine seeing a caravan trail or an oasis. Great job so far.

Thanks Warlin. I'm likely to add a camp, if time, and I will indicate a trail/road for sure.
I've done a few tests about a city and a remnant giant statue... And damn it's hard!

I won't rework those much, but I'm not sure of their correct placement according to the view...

    Thanks Thomrey, that's a hell of a compliment !

Shadows & lights are mostly done. I did a try for a more alien color palette. Thoughts?

And I probably won't do much more, except for border/labels/key of course.

A purple planet ? Weird science touch, in my opinion, you score with this !
