2.5 acres is roughly 1 hectare, give or take.

    Hi Straf,

Is that acre size done on the default District size from the Zip file?

I'd like to just download your first file and use that square acre measurement if possible to start my own surveying?

The maps are covered by a 5 foot grid. That means each grid square covers an area that is 25 square feet.

So an acre is pretty much 42x42 squares yes?

I don't know. A bigger boy made me say it.

According to Google there are 43560 square feet in an acre.

Divided by 25 (25 feet in a grid square) that figure is 1742.4, the square root of which is 41.7,

It would appear to be pretty well spot on to say that an acre on our city map is 42 x 42 grid squares

EDIT: And no... I'm not guilty of being the 'bigger boy'

Sorry Southern Crane I was being a bit silly - you are free to download my griddy and acrey thingy if you like. J.Edwards did the grid anyway (I think) I just did a bit of surveying if you like.

Right, I've started to work on the lay of the land. I'm not convinced by the green for the grass though. It looks like a bad pair of 1980s neon socks in places. I need to work more on this palette. Also I made some blobs to make it look like I know what I'm doing as it seems to be what the experts do. Any comments?

    Well, hey Straf! I'm impressed

Considering you've only done a couple of maps so far, that's really very good.

I don't know enough about GIMP yet, but if the green is too bright for you isn't there a way of diluting it a bit by turning that layer more generally transparent?

EDIT: I don't know about any fluorescent green ones, but I certainly remember the pink ones I had!

Thanks Mouse, but I'm not sure what you're impressed with

Anyway the green is sort of growing on me and there will be some darker shades when the trees start appearing. For now I've done a bit more on the lay of the land:
