Wip 52 Map Challenge - My Weekly Map Practice

Every Saturday morning I put a boombox in my car at 7:55am.

By 8:11am I'm in the car and driving across the valley to where my wife runs her dance school. The mornings are busy with students, parents and mischievous toddlers waiting for their older sibling to finish a lesson - I'm sat on reception taking money, speaking to parents and registering the students.

At about 11:00am I reach for this notebook:

In here I draw maps and I've set myself a goal to draw 1 map every week for a whole year (52 weeks) because I want to get better.

So far I've achieved 6 weeks in a row and here's what I've drawn so far.

#6 - This map started as an island sketch but turned into a cave.

I set no other rules than to sit in the chair and draw a map. However, I also know that you only get better through practice, self review and external critique. So I've come here to share my weekly sketches with you and I welcome comments, critique and ideas for future maps.

If you'd like to see the maps shortly after they've been drawn then I publish a quick picture on Instagram. I'll do my best to keep this thread updated as well.

    All the best,

    Vancano

I love this idea, and it will be interesting to see the progress you make in a year.

From my very limited experience, there is an improvement in the overall quality of your maps already! Can't wait to see how you and your maps progress over the course of a year!

Improvement is seen, and the best way to get better is with practice and this idea of yours is really good. Good luck with it, keep us posted
