damn.. I spent hours making a random world and it seems familiar... what is a man to do?

You could do two things to make the map different
1) reflect actual mass by
2) making lines of latitude and longitude curved

Have you see some of the true mass maps? They have the advantage of making distances actually travelled seem more real
if you wish I can post one to give you some idea of how different they become
