Help with redraw an old fantasy map

Hi Folks!

I made this map more than 10 years ago with Ms XP's Paint. It's the world map of a fantasy (d&d) setting.
I remember, at about that time I posted it here and somebody called it "pixel art"
My computer map making skills hasn't improved since then (never tried again), actually I don't have even Paint now, so I guess I could use some help.

I 'd like to have a simple, black and white, or not brightly coloured, clean version of it, which I could use in print. I imagine it in a somewhat cartoonish style, with drawings of mountains, forests, palace-like symbols for cities. Texture/ light colours for terrain, completed with some roads, rivers and that's it.
Maybe change, reimagine the outline at some places, and numbers(1-20) for a key.
