    Map Geneva (ish...)

    Hello !

As I wanted to try different styles, I took an old map of Geneva in a book and tried to copy it.

I started with Procreate on IPad and finished with PS for cartouche and labels

Lots of things looks odd, as for the relief, that I would have done differently, but I just sticked to the old map style, to see the result. On an other hand, I took some liberty with the topography : I added a river which doesn’t exist (at least not so close to the city) and added some bastions in the city defenses, the fields are not exactly where they are on the old map, and some names have been changed or altered, or they just disappeared.

I didn’t made all the insets of the original map, because the city I draw took too much place and the surrounding would have disappeared under those insets.

I used the brushes on Procreate to stick most as possible to the original lineart, which looks a bit as a « charcoal brush » or is very rough. Even to color the map, I used a brush called « concrete block » which is very rough and irregular.

The result was a bit surprising, but it was quite fun though asked quite a work... I think I've learned a few tricks here... so it’s all good !

PS : I'm not sure where does this map come from, but it’s labeled in English and French.... apparently it’s an order from a English man...

Fantastic work once again Joel ! The only thing I could comment would be the green and red colors. Something a little more subdued could have worked a little better in my eye but it's really nitpicking. I'll have to come back later for some rep

I agree with Thomas about toning down the greens a little, but overall you've done a mighty fine job on this Joel!

Looks great, JO! I do concur with Thomas and Greg about the colors, but aside from that it's a great map. And that's a neat idea, learning by remaking. Keep at it!
