    Default Pied-de-Vent, Capitale des Basses-Brumes

    Hi everyone!

I'm currently working on my first city map and... uuugh it's so complicated
I'm especially having a hard time making the roof shadows right... for some reason I tend to forget the light source, and given that my houses are scattered at different angles, it makes the drawing challenging... so you'll notice many inconsistensies in my shadows. Are they really a problem, or can I just let them be if it doesn't spoil the overall effect?

    Thanks for your feedback/critics!

Slowly making progress (I just realized I forgot to label my thread as WIP!)

My main problem now is to somehow highlight/stress the streets. I tried to draw them with a lighter shade, or to darken the layer under the sections, but neither of the two methods work out... I still have to figure out how to better delineate the inner structure of the city.

Just added a light shadow effect to give more contrast to the houses + first try at adding some text

    Salut!
    Très belle carte
Perso, je diminuerai l'ombre et je la ferai plus nette, moins diffuse.
Sinon, j'aime beaucoup. ça donne envie de jouer dedans!

    Hi,
    Very nice map
Imho, I'll lower the shadow and sharpen it a bit.
    I like it, very playable!

    Almost finished

I'm still not sure about those forests, too "fuzzy" to my taste but I don't know, maybe I'll keep them this way

The frame for the name of the city is ready, and I'm pretty proud of it I just discovered the possibilities of the path tool on Gimp...

I also have to find the right font for my texts, I'm not satisfied with the look of the upper banner.

Currently working on the damn frame... and I still can't decide if there should be a frame at all!

Here's the result with just a slight white border, I think I prefer this option

I've really enjoyed watching this progress, and I think your frames for the name of the city and landmarks look awesome.

As far as the borders/frames on the outside go, I like the gold version or the plain white border. Either looks great, so it's up to you!

    That's a good looking town.

As far as the frame: my rule of thumb is:
    - fancy frames for fancy / artsy maps;
    - simple frames for functional maps.
So I prefer the plain white border.
It highlights the map instead of competing with it.
