Thank you all very much for your kind words! I think this map is indeed finished, and you guys helped a lot.

I posted the map in the Finished section (here), but I'll keep this thread open a little while longer, since I intend to use the backdrop of this map for some more thematic maps. First one coming up is languages!

    Languages!

Two versions: one with the same terrain as in the last map, one with a more subdued terrain backdrop. Which one do you prefer?

I still need to add the legend of course. The political map was rather self-explanatory, with one colour per country (and the name of the country clearly labeled in the middle) but here the colours overflow the national borders and even overlap. So it needs a little key explaining what is what. Also, there's language families and isolates!

I'd say the contrast wit the labels is better with the first one.

Thanks Ilanthar, I'll continue working on that version then. As a matter of fact, here's the next update!

the biggest change is the legend in the top right. I also added numbers on the map itself for easier reading. I might still do a tweak here and there, but this is mostly a finished map I think. If you think of anything I forgot to add that should absolutely be present on a language map, be sure to let me know.

By the way! I also created a topographic map for this region! I already had the DEM and the bump shading so I thought why not throw a bunch of gradient maps against it and see what sticks. This is what I ended up with:

Yeah, that topographic one is amazing. I love the canyons and mesas and whatnot in the the southern continent.
