Thread: July Challenge: Pearl Island: Blue's Odyssee

  1. #1

    Default July Challenge: Pearl Island

I've been absent for a few months while working on personal maps and other projects, but this challenge seems like a perfect one to try something I haven't done for about 18 years.
For this map I'll go for the oldskool pixelart RPG style and I just hope I haven't forgotten to much of the artstyle to make it work
I've started working on the environmental tiles and the fills to make a super fun map!
To improve readability I decided to go for 3X3 'pixels' and 99X99 tiles to work with.
The current background is just an easy for the eyes placeholder.

Really neat start here. It will be interesting to see the final product!

    Thanks Arimel

Spend some time on cliff and beach tiles today, not done yet but they give a decent idea

These tiles are looking great so far. I do like the pixel art style and it's something that we don't really see much of on the guild, I'll be interested to see where you go with it.

Did some more work on the cliff tiles today as I wasn't a 100% satisfied, but after doing a small mock-up I think it's going in the right direction

Although I'm far from done with the tiles I started shaping the island to get a general idea of what is needed.
Got to say it's a big adventure picking up this style after such a long time but I enjoy it very much.
It's a shame we don't see this style more often on the forum

    Glad you like it Andarr

Slowly building the continent while so many new ideas come to mind (and an equal amount of new tiles to be pixelled....ouch)

Wow. This is a super ambitious project. I salute you for the patience it must take to create this. ...And now I want to go play an early Civilization game and watch my little pixellated settlers.
