Thread: Sci-fi / cyberpunk maps for board game

    Default Sci-fi / cyberpunk maps for board game

    Paid:

    Budgeting for about $50/map for an indie board game. Have some flexibility based on level of quality.

    Subject:

    Top-down indoor tiled floor maps with standard ~5ft/tile scale.

    Anticipating sixteen maps in all, with some variety in the environment and decor across each.

    Style:

    Sci-fi / cyberpunk lab areas. Areas not to be too noisy.

    From a visual standpoint, the desired style and level of detail is close to these:

    However, the map topology will generally be a simple grid-based layout. Here's an example of the approximate level of complexity to each floor map's topology (this is just an example, not an actual subject for this commission):

    Maps will range from about 15x25 to 20x30 tiles in size, with varying amount of filled space vs background on each.

    The intent is to have each map sheet laminated and players able to mark off tiles with a fine tipped dry-erase marker during play. So, features need to be clean, distinctive, and quick and easy to identify and interpret, even as pen markings are placed here and there on the page.

    There will be a modest amount of decor in the rooms of each map, but most spaces will be clean/empty (i.e., visual clutter will be low).

    Each area will have a subtle background texture image applied to the dead space.

    Prefer use of Photoshop or similar app for post-production work, e.g., enabling ease of minor adjustments as needed in the future.

    Using tiled image textures is fine, as long as some variety gets introduced for aesthetic purposes and the look of all parts is consistent throughout.

    Ambiance: Generally, all areas will be brightly lit. Need to easily apply and adjust multiple area-based, blended light sources to corridors and rooms for emphasis.

    Game icons and symbols will be overlaid on the maps post-production, but we can discuss integrating that work if you're interested in taking on that aspect as well for additional payment.

    Quality & Size

    * Professional / semi professional
    * Required for print (300+ px/inch)
    * Dimensions of map: ~8 inches by 7 inches (~0.28" / tile)
    * Raster

    Time Constraints
    Flexible. It's desirable to turn around at least ~1 map/week once we get going.

    Once we settle on a style, I expect to have a small amount of back-and-forth for touch-up on each map as we continue.
