Map For Fantasy Book
Hi guys
It's been ages since I last posted on the site, but I thought I would share the map I've just done for my forthcoming fantasy book. I made this by converting hand-drawn sketches into paint tubes. If anyone would like to use the sketches for their own maps then please just let me know.

Nice job! I really like the soft lineart on the coastlines and the texture on the ocean. The only thing that I don't like is the gray area of the land - I'm sure there are story reasons for it being there, but it just looks nowhere near as good as the white area, due to the white backround of the mountains and hills. Is there any way to make the white part of those see-through? I know in Photoshop this can be accomplished by changing the layer's blending style to Multiply. Don't know what software you're using though.
Other than that, a fine map and certainly rep-worthy!
Nice map, I love the composition ! I agree with kelleri on the grey area, the white features stand out a bit too much. Rep-worthy nonetheless !

Yes, the shaded area is there for a reason. I've taken out the white and darkened the mountains slightly to help them stand out against the grey. Is this any better?
I think it works better. A little idea maybe. It might be a long shot because it'll imply some work. What do you think about a negative version ? in the grey area, use white to draw and switch the detailed sied of the mountains so that you show highlights instead of shadow ? You'd just hav to change the color and then (the tedious part) select and mirror the shaded features individually.

But I think I'll leave it with the mountains being dark. It suits the story, with the land falling beneath a kind of shadow...

I've just blended the map with a textured background. Not totally sure about it but it does give it more visual impact...
